What is a Virtual Server Location?

For the majority of PIA locations, the physical server and the registered IP address are located in the same country.

For a small number of PIA locations, the registered IP address matches the country you have chosen to connect to, while the server is physically located in another country.

Usually, these servers are physically located in a country nearby, so you can enjoy a fast, secure, and reliable connection with a low ping.

For example, if you connect to PIA’s Hong Kong location, your network traffic will be routed through a server in Singapore and assigned a Hong Kong IP address. The result is that your traffic appears to come from Hong Kong.

Why Does PIA Use Virtual Server Locations?

In countries where local laws and regulations prevent us from upholding our No Logs policy or where server infrastructure would not meet our high security and performance standards, we turn to virtual server locations to give you the option to surf the internet reliably, safely, and more privately.
