You can change DNS settings in the Private Internet Access (PIA) app through the Network settings menu.
Steps
- Open the PIA app and ensure you are disconnected from the VPN.
- Open Settings by selecting the three vertical dots (⋮) in the app.
- Go to the Network tab.
- Locate the Name Servers section.
- Open the dropdown menu and select your preferred DNS option:
- PIA DNS (default)
- Existing DNS settings
- Custom DNS settings
- Built-in Resolver
- Handshake DNS
- Review your selection and return to the main screen if needed.
Important Note
Using existing custom DNS or Handshake DNS settings may route DNS traffic outside PIA’s network, exposing it to third parties.
