Step 1: Install OpenVPN Connect
In the App Store, search for “OpenVPN Connect” and install the app.
Step 2: Generate a Configuration File
- Go to the OpenVPN Configuration Generator page. If prompted, log into your PIA account. Select the OpenVPN version and device: iOS.
- Next, pick a location.
- Scroll down, select a port, and tap Generate.
- Open the browser downloads, then tap the downloaded file. This opens directly in OpenVPN Connect.
Step 3: Connect to PIA
- When prompted to allow notifications, tap Allow or Don't Allow.
- On the data collection, use, and retention page, tap Agree to proceed.
- On the Get Connected screen, under the Upload File tab, select Add on the profile to connect to.
- The Profile Name and Server Hostname fields are filled in automatically. Enter the PIA username.
- Select Save Password, then enter the password, and tap Connect.
- When prompted to allow PIA to add VPN configurations, tap Allow.
- Enter the iOS passcode.
- Once connected, Connected appears at the top of the screen. You can also see connection stats, such as data usage and duration.
