This error can appear when the Private Internet Access (PIA) app cannot use a required network route because Windows cannot reach the listed gateway through an active network adapter. This may happen if your network adapter settings, Winsock catalog, or TCP/IP stack are corrupted.
Follow the steps below to reset your Windows network settings and refresh your network adapters.
Important: These steps reset parts of your Windows network configuration. You may need to reapply custom DNS, IP, or proxy settings afterward.
- Go to Start, type Command Prompt in the search bar, and select Run as administrator.
- In Command Prompt, enter the following commands:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
ipconfig /flushdnsThen, restart your computer.
- Open Device Manager from the Start Menu.
- Expand the Network Adapters section, and disable all network adapters shown there.
- Enable all the network adapters back. This will refresh all TCP bindings to it.
- Power down your computer, wait 60 seconds, and power it back up.
After your computer restarts, open the PIA app and try to connect again. If the issue persists, submit a ticket to customer support.
