If you experience connection drops or cannot stay connected to a server, changing the port or connection type can help improve stability.
Steps
- Open the Private Internet Access (PIA) app from your system tray.
- On Linux, the icon appears in the taskbar or system tray, depending on your desktop environment.
- If you are connected to the VPN, click the power button to disconnect.
- Open Settings by right-clicking the system tray icon or selecting the three vertical dots (⋮) in the app.
- Select the Protocols tab.
- Ensure UDP is selected as the transport type.
- Open the Remote Port dropdown and select a different UDP port.
- If issues continue, switch the transport type to TCP.
- Open the Remote Port dropdown again and select a different TCP port.
- Return to the main dashboard and tap the power button to reconnect.
- If the issue persists, repeat the port and protocol changes until you find a stable connection.
