This guide explains how to set up PIA Smart DNS on a PS4 or PS5 through your console’s network settings.
Before you make any changes, note your current DNS addresses in case you want to restore them later.
Note: Smart DNS does not encrypt your internet traffic or hide your device’s IP address the way a VPN does.

Generate Your Smart DNS Address
First, sign in to the PIA control panel. Then follow these steps to generate a Smart DNS address for your PlayStation.

Select Smart DNS in the sidebar.

Open the Select Device menu, choose PlayStation, then confirm with Select.

Open the Select Location menu, choose your country, then confirm with Select.

Configure Smart DNS on Your PlayStation
Now, switch to your PlayStation console.
- Open Settings, then select Network.
- Select Set Up Internet Connection, then choose Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN Cable depending on how your console connects.
- Select Custom, then choose your Wi-Fi network. Skip this if you are using a LAN cable.
- Leave the IP address, DHCP host name, MTU, and proxy server settings on their defaults.
- Select Manual under DNS Settings.
- Enter the Smart DNS address you noted earlier under Primary DNS, and leave Secondary DNS blank.
- Select Test Internet Connection to confirm the new settings are working.
- Restart your PlayStation for the changes to take effect.
