Identity Guard is a Private Internet Access (PIA) feature designed to help you protect your accounts. It monitors up to two of your email addresses against known leak databases and notifies you as soon as an address appears in a breach. This way, you can take action before receiving a security alert.
This feature comes with your PIA subscription, and you can use it right now via your account.
Note: Identity Guard can’t prevent leaks or delete exposed data. If you receive a breach notification, update the affected account email, change passwords, and enable multi-factor authentication.
How to Use Identity Guard
Follow the steps below to add an email address to Identity Guard:
- Log in to your PIA Client Control Panel and select Identity Guard from the menu.
- Enter the address to monitor in the Your email address field, then click Email Pwned?
- Check your inbox for an email from PIA and click the link to confirm the address.
- Return to the Email Breaches Monitoring page. You can now view the following:
- Breach Alert: When enabled, this setting ensures you’ll receive email breach notifications for this address.
- Email Breach Status: Tells you whether Identity Guard found this email address in known breach records and how many breaches it appears in.
- To add another email address to monitor, click Add Another Email Address and repeat the steps above.
- To remove an email address from your list, click the bin icon next to the address. Click OK to confirm if prompted.
You’ll also find a Latest Data Breaches section at the bottom of the page. You can check it regularly for the latest breach reports, including the affected company, the breach date, and a brief summary of the event.
