Private Internet Access (PIA) VPN uses rotating IP addresses. This brings an extra layer of privacy, since your IP changes regularly. However, some platforms may block you or send more CAPTCHA requests if they detect frequent IP changes or heavy traffic from shared servers.
To keep using PIA VPN with a more consistent IP address, you have two options. You can connect through OpenVPN with a specific PIA IP configuration or use a Dedicated IP address.
Using a Specific Server IP with OpenVPN
This method gives you granular control over your VPN connection, but it requires more setup. You’ll need to use the OpenVPN app and import a PIA VPN configuration file for your chosen server.
See how to install OpenVPN and add a PIA VPN server configuration on your device:
- OpenVPN with PIA servers on Windows
- OpenVPN with PIA servers on Mac
- OpenVPN with PIA servers on Linux
- OpenVPN with PIA servers on Android
- OpenVPN with PIA servers on iOS
Using a Dedicated IP in PIA VPN
A Dedicated IP is a simpler alternative you can enable in your PIA VPN app.
It assigns one unique, static IP address to your account. Only you can use it, so you won’t share the address with other PIA users. This can reduce repeated verification checks whilst keeping your regular IP private.
Note: Dedicated IP is a paid add-on. This feature isn’t included by default in your subscription, and it isn’t available for subscriptions purchased through the iOS or Android app stores due to platform billing limitations.
To add a Dedicated IP to your plan and set it up on your device, see our full guide on how to purchase and use a Dedicated IP.
